Wired 13.04: Rise of the Green Machine
"Toyota has chosen the hybrid track for a simple reason: The world cannot afford to wait another 40 years."This is a great little article about the technology behind hybrid cars and the success Toyota is having at transforming itself into the hybrid car company. With gas prices going up, alternative energies still years away, and serious performance obstacles overcome, Toyota seems poised to become the world's number one automaker real soon.

Hybrids rock. What I didn't realize is that Toyota sees them as part of a transition strategy to electric engine-only cars, rather than as a stopgap until hydrogen engines become viable. Apparently they're convinced electric is the way to go and are betting hard on it - who knows?
My dream electric vehicle is a Segway. Hot damn I want one of those - it would be perfect for my neighborhood.
